A new ISSUE has been raised BREEDER BILL OF RIGHTS   TDP Members demand a cohesive and unified front and TheDogPlace.org says there is a serious threat to the private breeder whose true goal is to insure a loving home for every dog. We agree and will continue to report threats such as  Virginia's Mandatory Spay/Neuter Bill - Proposed Jan 2006, state-wide, no exceptions for show or breeding animals.  AKC publicizing the bill, let's hope it fights this "tooth and nail" as it has so vigorously fought the No-PAWS groups!

AKC Judging Application Criteria favors handlers over breeders?  Some say it seems like it does but Mr. Gaeta, Director Of Judging Ops, is willing to explain the Jan. 2006 system in an interview scheduled for the next edition.  In the meantime, see what exhibitors and clubs are worried about in this Part One.

AKC History and Future, fMarch Elections just around the corner.  This article from pre-election Spring 2005 is still a reminder and refresher course on where we were in 1884 and where we are with today’s AKC Board

Practice Makes Perfect How to prevent or handle dreadlock.  Why a puppy “shuts down” and what NOT to do at that time.  How to coordinate brain and legs, focus attention, and make a show dog with the first leash session at a show. 2/06

It seems that we're all taking things a little seriously lately.  I have a cure for that.  No Editorial  And just to be sure you're smiling, here's a classic tale from 1935.  I've read it a hundred times and I laugh every time because we have a swaggering, leg lifting  "Rex" or two in the sport.  Piddling Pup

Crusades You'll laugh and you'll burn with anger, but if you ever plan to fly, read this.  It's a nightmare, told with a light hand but it sure would be better If Dogs Had Wings

Classifieds Almost Ready! Don't wait if you have items for sale.  New, used, anything a dog owner would like to have.  Email Classified Dept. and we'll send you a PRE-VIEW link so your items, service, or notice can be among the first listed.

Meet the Mastiff Breed Rep Cathy Arney is as vivacious and outgoing as her mastiffs are quiet and laidback.  Over twenty years of show ring success and raising those big babies in the kitchen has made her a trusted authority.  And she disagrees with the Breeding Limitations by the Mastiff Club Of America!  So do most Vets.  For a thoughtful look at the controversy, Go To Mastiff Reference

Letters To The Editor  DoodleDog has been gnawing on the editor's serious mistake pointed out but he's wagging over the cystitus cure!  He agrees with a top  breeder/judge's letter on Purina Problems and is saddened by the expose' on Pet Cemeteries.  Click link above to peek in his mailbag for FCI, UKC, and Importing Pets.  Letter in response to Corn Is For Cows from the American Livestock Breeds Conservancy (ALBC)

Across The Board: January Chairman's Report plus figures on top breeds for 2005, the AKC/Eukanuba show (see ShowShots for winners)and a summary of the current battle over PAWS just about all that happened last month.  February is all about Westminster but early news is the Feb 3rd release of Complete Dog Book with 153 breeds, standards, history, including the 12 breeds that have been recognized since the 1997 edition.  We visited the Golden Gate show, formally considered the west coast's answer to WKC, but the entry was disappointing as a two-show event. The venue is surely an example of how dogs can be benched and presented!  Absolutely wonderful for exhibitors and spectators.  Two days and no stress, Bill McFadden dominating with an incredible Dandy that will surely be barking and wagging in NYC next week.

While the focus is on Jan. and Feb. show stuff, go to Club News and see what you missed or couldn't get anywhere else!  History, Secretes, Litigation, it's all there!

An Angel's Kiss - by Diane Sandberg  Sometimes something special is only with us for a short time.  It's these small pieces of time that we must treasure most. Editor's Choice for January because we've all cried like this.
